Can we put the new hardwood over the existing floors? Is this a good idea? Other choice is tearing all the floors out, but we would like to avoid that.

Any hardwood flooring experts out there?

We are considering 5 1/4″ unfinished Australian Cypress flooring but have heard some stories that it can tend to crack, creak and pop after installation.

We are planning to match moisture contents of flooring and subfloor before installation, glue and staple the boards in place, and the house will have a quality central HVAC system with humidity control.

Should we be concerning ourselves about this wood? Will this wood be likely to crack and pop when we walk on it down the road?
